Crime is down at the Beachfront

Over the past few years, the concern with crime around our city has become the focal point of many conversations.  Residents understand the need to be security conscious and are paying large sums of money to equip their homes with sufficient security to protect them and their belongings.

Having said that, we would like to share some statistics (Source:  www.crimestatssa.com) of what has actually been happening in our Beachfront suburbs over the past few years. 

The below report shows a drop in the number of reported property-related incidents in 2009 vs 2018 (Apr - Mar) in the Beachfront suburbs of Port Elizabeth:

  • Burglary at non-residential premises:  Down by 25% (242 then, 180 now)
  • Burglary at residential premises:  Down by 33% (657 then, 434 now)
  • Theft of motor vehicle and motor cycle:  Down by 30% (380 then, 266 now)

MILL PARK, LINKSIDE, MOUNT CROIX PRECINCT

  • Burglary at non-residential premises:  538 incidents
  • Burglary at residential premises:  393 incidents
  • Theft of motor vehicle and motor cycle:  244 incidents

WALMER, LOVEMORE HEIGHTS PRECINCT

  • Burlary at non-residential premises:  119 incidents
  • Burglary at residential premises:  743 incidents
  • Theft of motor vehicle and motor cycle:  134 incidents
